For SXSW 2018, Preacher was tasked with creating an experiential celebration of the 10 Year Anniversary of Vimeo’s Staff Picks. Along with the rest of the team, my partner and I picked the best of Vimeo’s best and paid homage to them throughout the entirety of the Native Hostel in Austin, TX.

The entire space and design used classic movie theaters as inspiration. Upon arrival, guests are immediately emerged into the theme. We transformed the hostel’s cafe area into a long hallway decorated with animated posters culminating in a ticket booth. At the booth visitors received their ticket and a zine-inspired program explaining the different video homages within the space.

In addition to a fully stacked bar area where guests could mingle and events featuring Vimeo stars like Danny DeVito and Elijah Wood, an entire wing of the hostel was transformed into living theater spaces. Every room in this wing paid tribute to a different Vimeo Staff Pick.

Each guest received a custom portrait doodle from Hi Stranger.

Learned about the disastrous Balloonfest in Cleveland.

Made some arts & crafts with Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.

Experienced Danny DeVito’s love story.

Got down to Marcel the Shell’s level.

And stepped into Jim Carrey’s studio.

All that and more in a three-day, immersive experience. Sorry you missed out!! It was pretty tight.
